Our History

History of Rockhill Missionary Bapitist Church

As closely as we can come to a date, our research revealed that a Baptist Church was organized on the border line of Maitland, Florida in 1920.

The Morris J. Williams and E.A. Oliver families were the only members. Service was carried on for a while at each home.

Later neighbors heard of what was going on. Mr. Dan Nails lived and owned property on the Red Bug Road. He gave the members a small plot of land to build a church.

Many faithful people united with the church. This small band of members gave the church a name – Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church.

The membership grew as a few years went by. Because of the growing need of expansion, the members purchased two large lots to move the church from the Red Bug Road location. Also the families bought and built homes in Jamestown, which was near the church.

The members had their first service in the new edifice in 1925. The record does not indicate the pastor’s name from 1920 until 1925.

Reverend Rogers Moore was called as pastor during the year of 1925. He served for many years until he was unable to drive from his home in Winter Park.

A few years after Reverend James Hagin was called to pastor, we had started building a larger block church close be side the first wood building.

Fifteen years later Reverend Billy Jackson came to us first to preach for the youth department; later he was called as pastor of the Rock Hill Baptist Church. In November 2010 Reverend Billy Jackson, resigned as pastor of the Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church where he served for 30 plus years.

On May 1st 2011 the Rockhill Missionary Baptist church family with much prayer called the Reverend Willie Nixon, as Pastor elect. On the fourth Sunday, June 26th 2011 we were blessed with the installation of Reverend Willie Nixon, Reverend Willie Nixon was installed as our new senior pastor of the Rockhill Missionary Baptist Church with his wife Mrs. Joanne Nixon.
